Our history
The Wirral Society of the Blind and Partially Sighted was founded in October 1989 by a small group of visually impaired people to create local support services across the Borough of Wirral. Over the many past years, the Charity has grown steadily in response to changing needs and increasing demand. A key milestone in our journey was the expansion of our Ashville Lodge Resource Centre in year 2000, enabling us to broaden and strengthen our services. Over the past 36 years, we have become a recognised and valued provider of specialist support across Wirral.
Partnership working has been central to our success. Strong relationships with the NHS Trust, Wirral Local Authority, and grant making trusts have supported our development and growth. Becoming part of the Wirral Health and Wellbeing CIC, we work collaboratively with third sector organisations across the borough. This led to our partnership with Merseyside Society for Deaf People (MSDP), who share Ashville Lodge with us as we jointly deliver sensory loss services under a local authority contract.
We have come a long way since 1989 where many remarkable people have shaped our journey. We remain committed to our mission and are grateful for the continued support from our funders, partners, and community. Together, we will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of those we support.
